Call for Papers: Breaking the Cycle: Advancing Substance Use Disorder Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery

Submission Deadline: July 15, 2025

The Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP), an official journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, is devoted to clinical pharmacy in all practice settings. A themed issue titled “Breaking the Cycle: Advancing Substance Use Disorder Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery” is being planned and will be edited by Drs. Kirk E. Evoy from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and Paul M. Stranges from the University of Illinois Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy together with Dr. Stuart Haines, JACCP editor-in-chief.

The goal of this themed issue is to showcase how pharmacists can improve care for patients with substance use disorders (including alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, opioids, illicit drugs, and prescription drugs) through novel pharmacy practice models or interprofessional approaches; patient, public, or health professional education; health care policy and advocacy efforts; preventive and recovery programs; or other means.

Submissions may focus on clinical, economic, social, implementation, or other forms of outcomes; innovative team-based care models; and other opportunities to advance the care and treatment of patients with substance use disorders. Research, including original research, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses, should include well-defined interventions that support reproducibility of outcomes when adopted and scaled. Other types of papers are also welcome and can include descriptive reports, commentaries, advocacy and health policy discussions, justification of service models, or the role of technology in supporting the care and treatment of patients with substance use disorders.

If you have questions about the themed issue or would like to propose a paper, you are strongly encouraged to contact the guest editors to discuss the nature and scope of your paper before submission. Address correspondence to Drs. Kirk E. Evoy at [email protected] and Paul M. Stranges at [email protected]. Please be sure to read and follow the JACCP Author Guidelines. All manuscripts must be submitted through the JACCP submission portal by July 15, 2025.
